Counselling
Your Path to Mental Wellbeing
A safe space to explore what is happening
Counselling & Psychotherapy
Sometimes finding your way forward begins with having somewhere safe to stop.
My approach is warm, person-centred and integrative, drawing on a range of therapeutic approaches to meet you where you are. Together, we explore what may be standing between you and greater peace, connection and wellbeing — at a pace that feels right for you.
Let's talk about what you need
What is Counselling?
Counselling is a collaborative process where you work with a trained counsellor to explore and understand your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. It’s an opportunity to discuss your concerns in a confidential setting, gain insight into your experiences, and develop strategies for coping and growth. Counselling is not about giving advice, but about helping you develop your own understanding and make choices that feel right for you.
The Role of the Counsellor
My role is to provide a safe, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can explore what is happening for you. I draw on different therapeutic approaches and adapt the work to your individual needs, rather than following a standard script or one-size-fits-all approach.
Together, we can explore what may be behind the difficulties you're experiencing, make sense of patterns that may no longer be helping, and consider ways forward that feel right for you.
A Relationship Built on Trust
I believe the relationship between counsellor and client is central to the work. For counselling to be helpful, you need to feel heard, respected and able to be yourself.
That means bringing:
• Openness and honesty — creating a genuine space where we can talk openly about what matters to you.
• Acceptance and respect — meeting you without judgement, whatever you bring to the room.
• Empathy and understanding — taking the time to understand your experience from your perspective.
individual support
Individual Support
Individual counselling offers a private, supportive space to explore what is happening in your life and what you would like to change. Whether you're experiencing stress, anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties or another personal challenge, we can work together to understand what is going on and consider ways forward that feel right for you.
couples counselling
Couples Therapy
Relationships can be complex, even when both people care deeply about each other. Couples counselling provides a space to slow things down, listen to one another and explore what may be getting in the way of connection.
Whether you are dealing with communication difficulties, recurring conflict, changes in your relationship or simply want to reconnect, we can work together to understand what is happening and consider ways forward that feel right for you.
grief & bereavement
Grief and Bereavement Counselling
Grief can affect every part of life, and there is no single way or timetable for grieving. Counselling can offer a safe, supportive space to talk about your loss, make sense of what you are experiencing and find ways to navigate after your loss.
Whether your loss is recent or happened some time ago, you can take the time you need to explore your grief, your memories and the changes that loss has brought.
Benefits of Counselling
Emotional Support
Counselling provides a safe and confidential space where you can express what you're feeling without fear of judgement. It can be especially helpful when emotions feel difficult to manage or make sense of.
Insight and Understanding
Counselling can help you better understand your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Together, we can explore patterns that may be keeping you stuck and consider different ways of responding.
Coping Strategies
Counselling can help you develop practical ways to manage difficult emotions, stress and life's challenges, building greater confidence in your ability to cope.
Relationships & Connection
Counselling can support healthier relationships by helping you understand communication patterns, explore conflict and consider what you need from your relationships. It can be helpful in individual, couples or family work.
Personal Growth
Counselling is not only about working through difficulties. It can also give you space to reflect, develop a stronger sense of yourself and make choices that feel more aligned with the life you want to lead.
Healing from Trauma
For people who have experienced trauma or difficult past experiences, counselling can provide a safe space to explore what happened and how it may still be affecting you. The work can be approached gently and at a pace that feels manageable for you.

What clients shared about counselling
Every person comes to counselling with their own story, circumstances and hopes for change. Here are some reflections from people who have worked with me and shared their experience.
Margie helped me out a lot when I felt stuck in life, very kind, caring and easy to open up to. Would highly recommend her.
Kayla
As this was my first every therapy experience, I was very nervous going to my first session, but from the minute I walked in to Margie’s office 9 months ago to now she has always provided me with a deep sense of understanding, compassion and positivity. Her calming presence has allowed me to open up in ways I have never before and inspires me to lead with the same aura. Working with Margie through counselling and hypnotherapy has massively helped me to understand my emotions and taught me how to get a better handle on them by myself. I can’t recommend this lovely woman enough to anyone who is struggling in any sense of the word!
Stefanie
When I met Margie I was a very different person to who I am now. This is down to Margie’s caring nature, guidance and help she has given me while working with her. I was in a dark place when I met Margie and to be honest I wasn’t sure about how counselling and I would fit together. I can honestly say it’s the best decision I ever made in my life. Margie was a huge factor in this from the moment I met her she made me feel at ease with her and from that I began the journey. With her help I have become a better person and I am so proud to say I’ve come through the other side. Thank you Margie.

I can honestly say I had a wonderful experience with Margie burns, in only a few sessions Margie helped me deal with past issues and nervousness for becoming a first time mother , I would not be as confident as I am today without her.

Just finished a run of sessions and really feel better in myself. Thinking about speaking about what troubles you have can feel uncomfortable and daunting, but it isn't at all like that here. You are made feel so comfortable and safe that you will struggle to stop talking. You will physically feel different when you leave after unburdening yourself. It definitely helped me i can only say thank you.

Margie is the ultimate professional with so much expertise that she can advise and talk through many issues and situations. I really enjoy my sessions with Margie and come out of her room feeling positive, enlightened, and totally relaxed. The hypnotherapy with Margie is pure bliss and helps me achieve my goal of having a calmer mind. Thanks Margie!

Jack
Very helpful and great at making you feel safe...helped me massively.
Donal
Attending sessions with Margie was a life-changing and invaluable experience. She is very understanding and adapts so well to each and everyone offering different approaches or therapies that can help you understand how you are feeling, and who you are as a person. She was able to see my perspective and adjust her approach accordingly, for example approaching things from a creative angle so I could better understand. She gave me skills to analyse my thoughts and myself so I can better manage things myself in the future. I always recommend her whenever I hear of anyone in need of someone professional to talk to as she really helped me in a time of confusion and stress, and hosted the sessions in such a calming, serene environment. Thank you Margie!

Margie is an extremely welcoming calming woman who listens attentively to anything you have on your mind. Originally, I sought help for counselling however, Margie explained the process of hypnotherapy to me and how it may help me. I felt very positive after the first session. The few hypnotherapy sessions that I have had have been an alluring experience and done online from home. .Although not emotionally pleasing and somewhat challenging for me at times, I have felt remarkably relaxed afterwards and less vulnerable in certain situations that I was really struggling with in my life. While this was my first time seeking help for issues I was experiencing I never considered hypnotherapy. From my experience with Margie I can say that it is a very inspiring and impressive method of therapy that can truly enhance your quality of life. I would recommend this lovely lady to anyone experiencing struggles in their life and finding it hard to cope. I look forward to more sessions and feel very positive about my progress so far and how this therapy will benefit me in the future
